Choosing where to live in Prague is one of the most exciting parts of starting your studies here, but it can also be overwhelming. Whether looking into dorms or renting an apartment, it's instant to know a little about the city's districts (or "quart" us").
Prague 6, for example. This is where I live, and it's the largest quarter in the city. It's close to the airport, with many parks and green spaces, making it perfect if you like peace. But it's farther from the city centre and most universities. The upside? The public transportation here is excellent, so commuting isn't an issue.
If you're attending the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University, Prague 5 could be a great fit. It's close to the new faculty in Jinonice and has a fantastic mall and some of the best restaurants in town. Another popular spot is Prague 7, known for its multicultural vibe and proximity to the Faculty of Humanities. The food scene here is incredible, with flavours from around the world.
For those with a love of trendy cafés and city vibes, check out Prague 2, especially Náměstí Míru or Vinohrady. These areas are chic, quiet, and conveniently close to the centre. If you're budget, Prague 10 is up-and-coming, with cute cafés, restaurants, and some of the best parks, though it is a bit hilly. While Prague 1 is the city's heart (and expensive!), Prague 4 offers a more laid-back vibe with great shopping. As for Prague 11 to 21, I can't say except that they're beautiful and tend to be more affordable.
Ultimately, Prague's public transport will make life easier wherever you choose. Before deciding, be sure to check the distance to your faculty, nearby supermarkets, and transport connections! Happy house hunting!

Když se řekne Erasmus, mnoho studentů si představí hlavně nové přátele, večírky, cestování a život na koleji s dalšími zahraničními studenty. Jenže zahraniční studijní pobyt může vypadat úplně jinak. Není nutné snažit se zapadnout do představy „typického Erasmu“. Důležité je najít si způsob, který bude vyhovovat právě vám.
