The study programmeme aims Applied Geography and Regional Development is to provide students with such competences that will enable them to study geographically and interpret phenomena and processes with an impact on regional development based on data. Special attention will be paid to the problems of the border region within the scope of the geographical competences being developed, using the specific model example of the Czech-Polish-Saxony tri-country, in which the Technical University of Liberec is actively involved. However, graduates will be able to apply the acquired competences and practical experience in other problem regions. The desired competences will be achieved through the theoretical professional basis provided in the profiling basis of the study plan, which will be developed using project methods. The programme is focused on teaching modern methods of geographical research applicable as part of complex multidisciplinary solutions to problems of public administration, especially municipalities and regions, but also the non-governmental and private sectors. The study programmeme is based mainly on knowledge from the fields of social and economic geography, regional development and regional geography. We consider applied methods of geoinformatics and cartography to be an important means. We consider the following important elements of the organization of education to ensure the stated goal of the study: 1. project-based teaching methods in part of the study programme; 2. continuous practice with potential employers supplemented by other forms of contact with regional actors-experts.

Study

As a graduate of the study programmeme, you gain knowledge and skills that enable them to interpret socio-economic processes occurring in geographical space. By applying geographical knowledge, supplemented by expertise in regional economics and other social sciences, they are able to propose measures leading to the sustainable development of regions, with particular emphasis on competencies addressing issues of spatial and regional development. Graduates also master techniques and methods that allow them to collect, analyse, and interpret spatial data, especially through the use of geoinformation technologies and statistical software. During their university studies, they acquire skills, knowledge, and competencies that enable them to succeed in the labour market in professions typically associated with a master?s-level university education. The composition of their expertise is particularly suited to employment in public administration and local self-government (including landscape management, geodata administration, and regional development within local and regional authorities and their organisations, central state administration bodies and their deconcentrated units, as well as administrations of areas with higher levels of nature protection), in institutions engaged in landscape management and care, and in non-governmental organisations.
