The doctoral study programme Pedagogy prepares students for scientific work in the field of pedagogy, respecting current trends in both foreign and domestic educational research. Thematically, this study programme focuses on areas related to research and dissertation work. The core of the study is the student’s individual scientific and research work connected with the preparation of the dissertation. The student also completes compulsory theoretical and methodological courses, divided into a theoretical block and a methodological block. In accordance with the focus of the dissertation, the student also selects courses from the specialist block. The study programme places emphasis on the development of scientific communication competence in English. The topics of dissertation projects are selected so as to correspond to the research projects carried out at the Faculty of Humanities of Tomas Bata University in Zlín. Doctoral studies are organised and supported by the Research Centre of the Faculty of Humanities of Tomas Bata University.

The graduate has acquired the ability to understand theoretical trends and critically analyse concepts in pedagogy, to independently address theoretical and methodological issues related to their area of specialisation, to design independent projects and conduct empirical research, interpret its results and seek application opportunities, and to publish in professional journals and actively present at national and international conferences. The graduate also has in-depth knowledge of the pedagogical foundations of the study programme, the content of which extends beyond Master’s-level studies, as well as knowledge of selected specialised areas. They possess deeper knowledge and, in particular, skills in educational research methodology and communication skills in English, especially focused on the reception and production of specialist texts in oral and written form and on presenting the results of scientific research to the professional community. The graduate has acquired the attitudes, values and motivation of a researcher and is able to identify with the profession of an academic. Graduates find employment particularly at faculties where the study programme Pedagogy is accredited and implemented, or in related fields, in research and development workplaces of a pedagogical focus, or in institutions involved in decision-making in the area of education and social affairs.
