Jihočeská univerzita v Českých Budějovicích - Zdravotně sociální fakulta
The need for a university-educated paramedic profession is currently high and the demands on the quality of erudite personnel in this profession are increasing. According to Act No. 374/2011 Coll. on the Medical Rescue Service, there are two types of call-out groups, an ambulance crew without a doctor and an ambulance crew with a doctor. The massive development in the field of the organisation of pre-hospital emergency care in recent years has clearly led to a steady increase in the importance of ambulance crews without a doctor. The requirements for higher qualifications of paramedics increase their usefulness in both teams of the above-mentioned medical crews, which significantly contributes to the quality of care provided. You will be able to provide specific nursing care in emergency care, acute admission and wherever the sick and injured are in immediate danger of death. Graduates will be licensed to practice the health care profession without professional supervision.
New students are admitted once a year, and entrance exams for the following academic year are usually held in June. 1) Submission of an electronic application via the STAG system. 2) Payment of the admission procedure fee. 3) Submission of the required documents (e.g. medical certificate, secondary school leaving certificate, diploma depending on the type of study). 4) Completion of the entrance examination, if required for the given study programme. 5) Evaluation of the admission procedure and publication of results. 6) The possibility to file an appeal against a rejection decision within the specified deadline.
Students will learn to apply knowledge from nursing, medical, and social sciences in professional practice, assess the current health status and needs of patients and clients, provide emergency care within the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system, communicate effectively with family members and authorised persons, including providing information about patient transport to healthcare facilities, establish priorities in nursing and emergency care, understand diagnostic procedures and tests in internal medicine, surgery, traumatology, paediatrics, neurology, gynaecology and obstetrics, psychiatry, otorhinolaryngology (ENT), and ophthalmology, and recognise changes in patients’ conditions, their causes, and manifestations, assist physicians during emergency and life-saving procedures, understand medications and their effects used for anaesthesia and procedural sedation in pre-hospital emergency care and intensive care medicine, perform and interpret basic point-of-care laboratory tests used in emergency medicine. Career opportunities include positions such as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Practitioner, Practical Nurse, Nursing Assistant, Medical Transport Service Driver, Healthcare Orderly.
