This interdisciplinary Bachelor’s degree programme focuses on the history and culture of Middle Eastern and North African countries from antiquity to the present, with emphasis on modern and contemporary societies and states. You gain in-depth factual knowledge of historical and contemporary Middle Eastern cultures and understand different cultural elements or patterns and their development. Optional courses are focused on Islam, Judaism and ancient religions of the Middle East. An integral part of the study programme is the study of Arabic, modern Hebrew, Persian or Akkadian.

You gain in-depth knowledge of the diversity and development of the Middle Eastern and North African culture. They possess knowledge of the history and culture from antiquity to the present, as well as of religious traditions, social norms, customs, values, religious ideas and symbols. Moreover, they will master one of the Middle Eastern languages. The Department of Middle Eastern Studies educates experts who are able to defend the interests of Czechia in relation to the Middle East and North Africa. Emphasis is put on their ability to react flexibly to current events in the region and analyse them. After graduation, you can find employment in diplomatic services and state security services, in human resources and marketing departments of international companies, in export/import, or in tourism. They can also work as foreign correspondents of national media, development cooperation coordinators, museum employees, field researchers, guides or organizers of cultural events.
