Západočeská univerzita v Plzni - Fakulta strojní
The three-year academic bachelor’s study programme is intended primarily for those who plan to continue in follow-up master's’s study programmes. Applicants for full-time study apply directly to the Mechanical Engineering programme. The first two years of full-time study are common to all students. From the 3rd year, students choose a specific specialization at the relevant department, where they also prepare their bachelor’s thesis. They can choose from five specializations: Design of Machines and Technical Equipment, Engineering Materials and Technologies, Engineering Technology – Machining Technology, Design of Power Machines and Equipment, Industrial Engineering and Management. If interested in the combined (part-time) form of study, applicants apply directly to one of two specializations offered in this form: Design of Machines and Technical Equipment or Advanced Technologies and Materials. More detailed information about the specializations is available on the website of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, under the tab I Want to Study - Bachelor’s Study. The study in specialization Design of Machines and Technical Equipment mainly consists of technical subjects that provide a foundation applicable in the field of machine and equipment design. The study in specialization Advanced Technologies and Materials is focus on materials engineering, mechanical engineering metallurgy and machining technology.
You will gain broad knowledge of basic technical disciplines: mechanics of elastic and rigid bodies, fluids and thermomechanics, and you will acquire an overview of common engineering materials, the basics of electrical engineering and industrial engineering. You will learn to read and draw technical drawings and master basic technical calculations. The programme also includes language training. You will find employment primarily in mechanical engineering companies, but also in aviation or the automotive sector, in commercial and consulting companies and in public administration. The combination of technical education with economic and managerial skills will enable you to solve complex problems in professional practice. Above all, however, you are prepared to continue in one of the follow-up master's’s study programmes. *********** You will gain broad knowledge of basic technical disciplines and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the work of a design engineer. You will also gain theoretical knowledge in mechanics of elastic and rigid bodies, fluids and thermomechanics. You will have an overview of common engineering materials, the basics of electrical engineering and industrial engineering. In addition, you will gain knowledge of the design of forming and machining machines, the basics of design methodology and learn to use modern design support tools (CAD and CAE). You will also learn to design using non-conventional materials (composites and plastics) and work with modern measurement and control technology. The programme also includes language training. You may work as design engineers, but you will also apply your knowledge in many other positions in mechanical engineering operations such as production technicians, staff of specialized testing laboratories, production managers or in the field of diagnostics of machining and forming machines. Above all, however, you are prepared to continue in a follow-up master's’s study programme. *********** You will explore the most modern methods of mechanical engineering production. You may specialize in casting, forming, welding, thermo-mechanical treatment and surface treatment of materials. You will gain orientation in engineering materials or specialize in technological methods used in mechanical engineering production and acquire knowledge of the machining process itself. You will learn to read and draw technical drawings and master basic technical calculations. You will be able to prepare production procedures for simple machine parts (workpieces, castings, forgings, weldments). The programme also includes language training. Depending on your focus, you will find employment in the field of material quality, welding, casting, forming and machining technologies, mechanical testing, metallographic evaluation, monitoring of surface properties and corrosion resistance, etc. Above all, however, you are prepared to continue in a follow-up master's’s study programme.
