The "Engineering Design" degree program consists of six specializations. These specializations cover the design and engineering of both machines and their structural assemblies and components. Furthermore, the program provides knowledge in the field of machinery for earthmoving, mining, and construction work, as well as transportation equipment. Maintenance and diagnostics are also addressed for all these machine systems. Industrial design is an integral part of the program’s comprehensive scope. The entire program is highly specialized and incorporates the latest advancements in the field. State-of-the-art procedures and optimization methods are used in design and calculations. Working with modern CAD applications and FEM systems is a given. Students design machines and machine components with regard to load-bearing capacity and required service life.

Studium

Graduate Profile of the Study Programme Professional Knowledge of Graduates Graduates demonstrate the required knowledge of mathematics, descriptive geometry, physics, computer graphics, computational methods, mathematical modelling, mechanics of rigid and deformable bodies and media, materials science, thermomechanics, and fluid mechanics at a level enabling their practical application. Furthermore, graduates demonstrate advanced knowledge related to the individual specializations within the field of study. These include, in particular, engineering materials, manufacturing technologies, machine design, machine components and assemblies, production system design and management, ergonomics, and industrial design. Through the study of theoretical, applied, and discipline-specific (specialization) courses, graduates acquire engineering knowledge in the field of Mechanical Engineering with a focus on their selected specialization. They are equipped with the skills and knowledge that enable their professional development through creative involvement in industrial practice or by continuing their studies in a doctoral degree programme. Professional Skills of Graduates Graduates of the Master's degree programme are primarily qualified to work as design engineers, project engineers, analysts, and research and development specialists. They complete design-oriented exercises and seminars within their specialization and independently prepare semester and diploma projects. They work in design studios and are trained to cooperate effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Graduates are capable of analysing, simulating, and designing manufacturing, technological, and information processes and systems, as well as proposing their control using modern automation and computing technologies. They are proficient in the use of engineering software tools such as CATIA, AutoCAD, and advanced CAD systems that cover not only design activities but also project planning and the entire area of production engineering preparation. Graduates acquire essential skills and knowledge in mechanics, machine elements, machine and equipment design, elasticity and strength of materials, computer-aided design (CAD), engineering graphics, and specialized software applications. General Competencies of Graduates Graduates deepen their knowledge and skills in the design of machine components, assemblies, and mechanical equipment. They acquire principles and methodologies of engineering design, design theory, and advanced use of computer technologies and computer graphics in the design and development of machines and equipment across various industrial sectors and fields of human activity. They gain practically oriented knowledge and experience in machine and equipment design, including industrial design. Graduates are capable of making independent and responsible decisions in new or changing circumstances or within rapidly evolving environments, while taking into account the broader societal implications of their decisions. They are able to define assignments for professional activities based on available information sources, coordinate such activities, and assume ultimate responsibility for their outcomes. Graduates are capable of independently solving engineering problems, communicating their professional opinions clearly and convincingly to both experts and the general public, and summarizing the views of other team members. They are able to apply their professional knowledge, technical skills, and general competencies in at least one foreign language. Furthermore, they are capable of planning, supporting, and developing not only their own professional growth but also that of the entire project team. Graduates possess the ability for lifelong learning and continuous development of their skills and competencies.
