The study programme focuses on issues related to the design and execution of building structures, including residential buildings, public facilities, industrial buildings, and agricultural structures. Graduates acquire fundamental knowledge in the design of building structures, structural analysis and calculations of reinforced concrete, steel, timber, and masonry structures, as well as in foundation engineering. They also gain knowledge in building services engineering (sanitary systems, central heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, and electrical installations) and building physics (thermal performance of buildings, building acoustics, and daylighting). Furthermore, graduates are educated in construction execution processes, cost estimation and construction economics, building defects and their rehabilitation, as well as in the currently implemented Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Graduates will find employment primarily in design and construction companies in the field of building engineering, particularly in the design, preparation, and execution of residential, public, industrial, and agricultural buildings. Thanks to their general foundational knowledge of structural analysis, foundation engineering, building physics, and building services engineering, they may work as building designers or construction planners. They may also be employed in construction companies as site managers, construction supervisors on behalf of investors, or quality control and management staff. With regard to their knowledge of construction economics and cost estimation, they may further work in investment preparation and project management roles.
